Some Cantons

In some thinly peopled Cantons, the expedient
of Ecclesiastical Parochial Judges might
supersede altogether the necessity of a Canton
Judge. No spot of four square leagues, that
is of near six miles square should be without
some judgement-seat nearer to it than that of
the District Court may be. But in a seat of
that extent containing few or no inhabitants
and mostly covered with wood, water or uncultivated
rocks, the occasional services of the Parochial
might be abound amply sufficient for the few cases instances
of occasions on which those services would be called for.

While law-business confines One great recommendation
of parochial jurisdiction is that while
law business confines itself within those boundaries
I am sure it can be carried on and commonly terminated without disbursement
or hardship labour: for hardship labour it can never
be reckoned to go occasionally for Justice, where
a man goes habitually for Religion. In this
