at the office at the time appointed, it was then that he spoke of the above
conception as a mistake misconception of his own, and, informing me
that it was with the Treasury that any negotiation was
to be carried on in future, put into my hands, of his own accord, without
saying any thing further, or if to serve me as a Voucher
in case of need, the memorandum in Mr Pitts hand of
which mention is made in my Examination as above:
and then, or not long after, he took me to the Treasury
and introduced me in per for the purpose to Mr Long, at that time
one of the Secretaries.

Taking then the aforesaid 29 Sept. 1795 as the
day on which, under the Contract, my management of
the Prisons, and with it my profit, might and ought to have
commenced, this will give

1. From the 29 Sept. 1795 to 25 March 1813, Years 17 1/2
2. From 25 March 1813 to the decease of the survivor
of myself aged 65 years and my Brother aged 56

Total of the time during which according to the agreement the receipt of the
said profit ought to have continued — — — — — 24 1/2

N.B. Of this term of 7 years the assumption is made
in conjecture: but, for the purpose of computation, subject
to correction, it will serve as well as any other. For
the proper term fixing it, the Arbitrators will, I humbly presume,
deem it right to take the opinion of some man of science scientific person
acting professionally in this line. On turning to the 28th
Finance Report so often referred to, they will see that Ao 1798 will on the subject of for
this pecuniary purpose reference to the same lives to 1798 reference was made to
Mr Morgan Actuary of one of the Life-Insurance Companies. years afterwards, for the adjustment
of a trifling family purchase, the Speaker at his own suggestion
but with my consent, took the opinion of the same mathematically-learned
gentlemen, All above mentioned: names
