what had been done in the time of Lord
Hardwicke and what was done now – but had
afforded nothing like full and distinct information
of as to the business that remained to be
done and or the reasons why it was not
done.

The number of motions indeed appeared to be
doubled – but the house ought therefore not
therefore to imagine that the business of the
Court was in that respect doubled. Much
of that sort of business which in Lord Hardwicke's
time was done on petitions and
special motions was now done upon
motions of course. It was difficult in any
other way to account for the increase of the
business motions. There had been no rules or orders
materially to vary the practice of the
Court – and it was now much the same as
in the time of Lord Hardwicke.

Bankrupt Petitions had certainly certainly
increased. This wa number was doubled – but
he was utterly astonished that the increase
was so little. He had thought they must
have increased to 5 or 6 times at least their
former amount at at the very least. But
here again it should be observed that many
things which before occasioned long discussion
were not disposed dispatched as matters
of course.
