decided was 37,880 – of petitions 1,653 –
In the last ten years the numbers were
motions 57,163 – petitions 2,718 – and
the increase upon Bankrupt petitions
was from 13 or nearly 1400 beyond the
amount in Lord Hardwicke's time though
the Orders of Lord Roslyn had a tendency
rather to diminish the number of those
petitions. Yet supposing the paper
needed of these motions of cause and
that only the same number at remained
as in Lord Hardwicke's time still he maintained
that even upon the same number
the labour and time bestowed and time required
necessary to be bestowed had increased
beyond all comparison.

With regard to Lunacies – he believed that
description of business did not occupy
much of the Chancellor's time – but
from the result of every view that he
could take of the subject was that
there was a great increase of business in
the Court of Chancery and a great arrear of
causes – that there was a great arrear
of appeals and writs of error in the house
of Lords and that the arrear of
appeals from Scotland had greatly increased
in this session – and that upon upon
the whole they had sufficient materials
