the use of Dungeons. Those therefore who
may have considered the use of Dungeons or other other apartments

the air as being the only means of excluding
the light may be apt to look upon the
circumstance of darkness as being deservedly thrown
out of the catalogue of eligible punishments. But this
upon a little reflection consideration will appear not to be the
case. The light may be entirely excluded without
any diminution of the supply of Air.

Now the circumstance of the want of light is the
most striking circumstance in the eyes of the
generality of men annexed included to the idea of a Dungeon. The exclusion of a Supply of fresh Air
and the mischief that result from it are circumstances consequences
that are not apt to strike any but what those
who
have some acquaintance with tincture of Natural Philosophy.

one; and well calculated to answer the purpose of
Exemplarity. It will be of use therefore that it should
be retained; and it may be employ'd to signify any
apartment
