Territorial Confinement and Banishment
The 2 inconveniences attending Banishment are
apt in some respects to be greater than those of Territorial
confinement at home, in others less: but
nothing can be more uncertain than their as well in point of quality
and as quantity. They apt in some respects to be
even greater than those of Simple Imprisonment.
The liberty of seeing ones enjoying the company of one's friends
and relations which in Imprisonment and Territorial Confinement
is apt only to be abridged, in Banishment
is apt to be taken entirely away. Nothing however
can be liable to greater variation than this
circumstance. The liberty in question may be as
compleatly taken away by Relegation as by Banishment.
