The English law is here again eminently
defective. The It knows not of any such thing as
honour. It has no notion of estimating a corporal
insult but by the severity of the wound bruise or the dimensions
of the wound: it has no idea of any other
harm there can be in loss of reputation but loss
of money or what may be had is to be had for money. Money
too it looks upon as a salve for every sore. It has nothing to give him
but money which he scorns.
It has
no idea of any other reparation than what consists
in money: it has no idea that a man who
has not had money given him, has any thing: or
that a an injured man who has had money given him
