<p>In December the Green Committee, in consequence<lb/>

addressed a serious exhortation to the Greeks, which was<lb/>
extensively circulated among the Primates, the <del>kapitanoi</del> <add>Captains</add><lb/>
(<foreign><unclear>Kanisavoi</unclear></foreign>) &amp; the people urging on them the peremptory<lb/>
necessity of union:  &amp;  <sic>pourtraying</sic>  the fatal inefficiencies of<lb/>
those misunderstandings &amp; divisions which had been such a<lb/>
source of triumph to their enemies &amp; of sorrow to their friends.<lb/>
The Committee have reason to believe that this address produced<lb/>
a salutary <del>influence</del> <add>impression</add> in Greece:  It was seconded by the<lb/>
prompt &amp; active interference of Lord Byron &amp; Col Stanhope<lb/>
&amp; but for the unfortunate death of the former &amp; the unexpected<lb/>
recall of the latter, <del>the <gap/></del> a new era of conciliation &amp;<lb/>
harmony might have <del>been</del> dawned upon the Morea.</p>
<p>On the arrival of the Greek Deputies a loan<lb/>
was contracted for thro' Mess Loughnan Son &amp; OBrien for<lb/>
£800,000 &amp; <del>three members of <add>two</add></del> the Committee <add>requested two of its members</add> Mr Hume &amp;<lb/>
Mr Ellice <del>were appointed</del> to act as Commissioners <del>in <gap/><lb/>
of the public</del>.  Three other members <add>Lord Byron, Col. Stanhope &amp; Mr Gordon</add> were appointed, <del>were</del> to watch over its<lb/>

In December the Green Committee, in consequence
of communications from Lord Byron, and from other sources
imparting the unfortunate calamitous disposition existing in Greece
addressed a serious exhortation to the Greeks, which was
extensively circulated among the Primates, the kapitanoi Captains
(Kanisavoi) & the people urging on them the peremptory
necessity of union: & pourtraying the fatal inefficiencies of
those misunderstandings & divisions which had been such a
