And wherever a tear is wiped away,
The eye of sorrow is dried by Thee.
O nature! thou stream fair & thriving stream
Alas! for him whose eye spirit can see
No brightness in thy body resplendent beam
No glory in thy crown'd majesty
No beauty in thy benignant face
No awe in thy deep secret searching eye
In thy proud step nor signified strength nor grace
No wisdom in thy high energy.
Blind man! the meanest, the vilest thing
That Thy proud scornful insolence tramples over down
Is beyond thy highest imagining; –
And formed by that great, that infinite one
To whom the Sun is an atom of night:
Him we adore – but cannot conceive:
He reigns us in approachable night
We know not – we see not – but bow & believe
That wanders in heaven's blue vault along
Unnoticed he drives his glorious car
A myriad unseen planets among.
