I must confess unable to conceive on what
account a man could have been supposed to be
more likely to be effect escape for being under the eye of
those whose business it is to prevent him from escaping be under it,
or more likely to try at it to escape get out from being
under the persuasion of their knowing of his being being prepare to
so employ'd hinder him. Things are good and bad by comparison.
If a person possessed of the peculiar
advantage is bad for the purpose of safe-custody
what how much worse must all others actual & possible that
come in competition with it, all who destitute
as they must be of this advantage? Has any
person that was counted or imagined, any
single advantage concomitant particularity that is not, if it be worth adopting capable of being
adopted into this? if it be an advantageous Or
was it taken for granted, that in consequence of
the confidence inspired on the efficacy by this was and extraordinary
contrivance, all known and ordinary
ones are meant to be neglected. So far from it,
that in addition to athe circumstance in question, which is peculiar
to this sort of person, a I have been spared no
industry in collecting and contriving additional safeguards precautions
of a notion to which happen to have nothing
about them which renders them incapable of
being applied to other prisons at large.
