Review of Humphreys
Conclusion
Idea of J. B. Procedure
(3.)

By no father of a family, by no Committee
of either House, are those rules of evidence set
up which, by the Westminster Hall Judicatories, are on
every occasion at once set up and violated. By
the father a family, only for avoidance of delay, vexation
and expense would exclusion be put upon
the evidence of any child of any servant, on
whose part any cognizance of the facts in question
are is supposed to have place: Exclusion on the
ground of interest, for fear of deception, none.
No father of a family, no Committee of wither House,
to push off to a distance persons whose evidence
was needed, for the purpose of compelling them to
exhibit their declarations in long-winded written
discourses, replete with surplusage, and uttered
without responsibility in case of falsehood, succeeding
one another in alteration for months
and years at a ruinous expense, instead of eliciting
their declarations instantly, without any
expense.
