Purport of Bill for
Paving of City of Westmr
extracted 21st March 1769
with Strictures

Reciting several Acts passed in the 2d 3d, 4th & 5th years of
his present Majesty for having &c ye Streets &c within the
City & Libty of Westmr & other Parts within ye sd Acts mentioned.
– Great Progress made but by reason of the Insufficiency of
the Funds appropriated for ye purposes thereby intended, It is
found impossible to compleat of same.

And ye sd Acts are in several respects defective more especially
with regard to the assessmt of the dates, wch, according to the methods
thereby respectively prescribed, are levied in very unequal Proportions.

And that it is just & expedient, that such Parts of the Parishes of
St Mary le Bone & St Pancreas wch now are or shall hereafter
be built uon & are adjoining to the other Part, included in
the sd Acts, shod be subjected to the Powers & Provisions thereof,
and tat some further Provisions general Powers shod be
granted for compleating of several Purposes of the sd Acts

Enacted. That from & after the
the Sole power & authority of Pitching, paving, repairing,
cleansing & lighting the Squares, Streets, Lanes, Courts, yards,
alleys, Passages & Places, shall be vested in the Commissn
appointed by ye sd former Acts together with this present
Act, into Execution, exceptions such places only as
the Power & Direction of Commissn appointed by any other or
particular Act of Parliament.

That the Dean of Westmr for the time being be one of the Commissrs

That from & after if any two Housekeepers
within ye sd City & Lib'ties Parishes or Places, shall make complaint
in writing under their hands, to the sd Commissn of any Defect or
want of repairs, in any of the Pavements of any of the sd Streets &c
either before or after ye same shall have been new paved or
repaired by virtue of the sd former Acts or of this Act; then
in such case the sd Comn shall forthwith cause the Pavement
so complained of to be inspected by such Person or Persons as
They shall appoint for that purpose; and if the same shall
be found defective, & be so reported to ye sd Comn, unless it
shall appear to arise from a defect in or relating to the
water Pipes lying under such Pavement, They yd sd Comn shall
forthwith give orders to their Contractor or Contractors, Paviers
or Paviers to repair ye Same, and if the Contractor or Paviers
