Evidence
For a variety of purposes, in England as elsewhere, individuals are collected
together in a correspondent into a variety of subordinate aggregations, having each of them a
common purse. Of these aggregations, the one composed of the taxable inhabitants
of each division of territory called a parish, is one and but one:
