Observations. Cleanliness, when once become habitual, is persevered in
through choice. But it is not in the nature of things that
cleanliness should become habitual in the midst
of habitual sloth and drunkenness. Filthiness then we may be assured, can never be otherwise than habitual and universal in the improved
Colony, both as a cause and as an effect of depravity in other
shapes.
