TURNPIKE ACT Observations on. 47 47 §6

2
Unsteadiness of expression Mischiefs of-
{Here it is "Crane, Machine, or Engine for weighing"}
"of Carriages" — {in the 4th it was shortly "Weighing-Engine"}
start: this is not mere innocent tautology: for the
change of words naturally leads a man to look for
a change in the Ideas which they express are to represent <add>put for</add>; Things identical Ideas clothed in the guise language of diversity nor can
he if be satisfied of their Identity, if at all, till after
he has sent his wits in have been upon search after every possibility
of difference in vain. So immense is the Law, & in many parts so unknown, that a man can never be assured concerning but that it has of any term [especially] under circumstance of such suspicion but that it may have had contracted some latent peculiar in virtue of some usage or decision of which he is not aware, & been metamorphosed without his knowing it into a term of not but that a word which he might innocently to suppose like other words has been metamorphosed some where in a some corner into a term of art - Where it is consider'd for example who it is, that confessed his not knowing the difference between the word tenor & the word purport, what who is that Lawyer is it (for I say nothing of other men at large many who will dispute, but that this case may be his own?

50. § 6, 7, 8, 9

Unsteadiness Repetitions Autoecous but Heterothalamous
The 6 giving imposing a penalty, prescribes the evidence &
jurisdiction: the 7th & 8th also imposing also penalties, do not,
the 9th again, does

REDUNDANC. Miloecous 69 §28, 29, 30, 31 but Heterothalamous.

In §28 the Penalty is declared to be recoverable "before one Justice of
the Peace" & nothing more said — in §29 it is "any
one or more Justice or Justices of the Peace of the
County Riding Division or Place, where such
offence was committed" — In §30th there is a
20' Penalty but at nothing is said about the Recovery —
In §31. it is "any Justice of the
Peace of the County, division, or Place, where
the same shall be proved to be done" close of
which phrase is a little rather not altogether free from ambiguity —
If the 1st Passage is explicit enough
all the others & many more parallel ones are too much so
