<p>I suppose your Lordship to have before you<lb/> the statement of the proceedings in relation to the establishment<lb/> as contained in my examination dated the 28<hi rend="superscript">th</hi><lb/> of June 1798 and printed by order of the House of Commons<lb/>in the Appendix to the 28<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> Report of the Committee of<lb/> Finance. I suppose your Lordship to have read the Letter<lb/> dated Treasury Chambers 4<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> May 1798 and signed <hi rend="underline">Charles<lb/> Long</hi>, printed in pp.65 of that same Appendix, in which<lb/> the <hi rend="underline">"Lords Commissioners of his Majesty's Treasury"</hi> are made<lb/> to say <hi rend="underline">"they have always felt a disposition to carry into<lb/>"effect the Contract"</hi>... <hi rend="underline">"for the erection of a Penitentiary House"</hi><lb/> <hi rend="underline">"whenever a proper spot of ground for the purpose of<lb/>"the said building could be obtained</hi>": a disposition so warm<lb/> and so sincere, on the part of those whose province it is<lb/> to act &amp; think for their Lordships, that from that time<lb/><add>till</add></p>

of June 1798 and printed by order of the House of Commons
in the Appendix to the 28th Report of the Committee of
Finance. I suppose your Lordship to have read the Letter
