I think we have been at cross purposes with <add>one</add> another<lb/>in our letters for some time, occasioned I must confess, by a neglect<lb/>of mine to write to you hitherto as often as I should have done<lb/>and then sometime after you have sent your letter, you have received mine,<lb/>and then sometime after you have wrote me another letter chiding<lb/>me for not writing to You, and a day after perhaps you have<lb/>received another from me, and so on. both the letters that you<lb/>wrote me, came at once, but no M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Skeates along with them. — all<lb/>our Verses were <sic>shewn</sic> up last Monday <add><unclear>sen'night</unclear> or</add> fortnight I think it<lb/>was, but I shewed <del><gap/></del> up <add>mine</add> to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Jefferson 2 or 3 days before; he<lb/>liked them very well, & seemed pleased. all the Verses are to be given<lb/>up to the Provost, who is <add>to</add> <sic>chuse</sic> which he thinks best, or if he<lb/>has a mind, none at all. but I can neither acquaint you when they<lb/>are to be printed, nor who amongst us make them: tho'I believe<lb/>most do.
