Composition
Preservatives of
Simplicity

How shall the simplicity of the Laws be proceeded
preserved?.

1. Shall the whole personal code be republished
upon every the most trivial alteration? or
2. Shall supplements be published from time to
time.

In this latter case the most alteration that comes
to be made after ten years from the original law
let the whole be republished in a consolidating Law.

In the supplemental Laws when any alteration
is made in any part of the original law
let care be taken to prevent any difficulty with regard
to the interpretation — Therefore

Let every article in which the matters of any change
is made be reprinted entire, the new words in which
the change is made being distinguished by a peculiar
different type

Example By Stat 13 Jan 1785
"Instead of Art. 10 the following articles
are to be received observed

Or
Between Art. 10 and Art. 11. come the following
articles which are now henceforward to be observed.

Begin?

It is not enough to make the [stile of the laws]
system of Jurisprudence methodical and concise: the
business is, if possible, to keep it so.
