The whole space above the level allotted for the Frigidarium might be accessible from without by means of the ascending arch or chain of arches and thence might be employd freelly without any disturbance to the temperature of the Frigidarium underneath. If the upper space above the occupied level of the Frigidarium were left unoccupied would not that have a mass of aair at a high temperature that would be lowering the temperature of the subjacent strata? Ansewr- The whole vacuity might be filled with air at a low temperature i:e: when the thermometer was at or below the freezing point. The space above would form be of use as a receptacle for the warm air rendered
