<p><del>Justice</del> Under the system of utility, justice, as hath been already<lb/>
explained, is but a modification of benevolence: benevolence<lb/>
considered <add>in so far as it belongs to the field of the present work</add> as applying to those cases in which no provision<lb/>

or no adequate provision has been made by the power<lb/>
of the law: in which case the dictates of justice belong<lb/>
to the subject of political deontology.</p>
<p>To <add>In</add> the field of private deontoloty the dictates of<lb/>
justice may have place in respect of any act in so far<lb/>
as it is considered as being the subject of obligation:<lb/>
of obligation from any one of the sources of obligation<lb/>
that is to say from any one of the several sanctions.</p>

several sanctions are liable to vary and become opposite<lb/>

and opposition is most apt to take place and in<lb/>
which the importance of such variance is the most<lb/>

1 Benevolence & Justice

Justice civil — distributive a penal & remunerative = consternation

Justice Under the system of utility, justice, as hath been already
explained, is but a modification of benevolence: benevolence
considered in so far as it belongs to the field of the present work as applying to those cases in which no provision

or no adequate provision has been made by the power
of the law: in which case the dictates of justice belong
to the subject of political deontology.
