Extract from a letter of Mr Carvalho to Mr Rocha

Lisbon— April-28- Mr Bentham not having written
to, cannot have an answer from, the Cortes. However,
it was ordered that honorable mention of his present should be made in the
Acts, and that an official communication of it should be made
to me; about it moreover, that his works be sent to
the Regency (where they are already arrived) to be translated
into Portuguese. As soon as the official communication
is made to me, I shall transmit it to you in
the most flattering manner, as the case deserves.

— May- 5— I am just now told by Mr Filgueira
that the Cortes will write to Mr Bentham. I am
very glad of it—

Mr Filgueiras is a Deputy and one of the Secretaries
to the Cortes— Rocha
