Set aside consideration
of such uses, the inducement
is of the
painful kind: pleasurable
inducements
excite & strengthen
faculties — painful benumb
& weaken them.

Set aside the consideration of all such uses
in this case unless money or moneys worth or
factitious and adscititious reward in some
other shape in every case attended with
expense painful is the only sort of inducement
he can have. Bu inducements of the
pleasurable kind faculties are excited and
strengthened by inducements of the painful
benumbed and weakened

2, By the idea of use
learner encouraged
to look out for the
use of every step in
his progress: if no
satisfactory use he is
excused from laboring
at it.

2. By the idea of use thus presented to the mind
at the outset encouragement is given to the
learner at every step in the progress to keep
himself on the look out for the way in which
that step leads to use: and accordingly if in as often as
the course of the progress any object for which
no use can be found is presented to his view
he may thus be induced to present the question
to his tutor and if no satisfactory answer is
made to beg to stand excused from the labour
of endeavouring to form a conception of it

As to these uses in the course of this enquiry
this is a topic which will be particularly attended
to but antecedently to this some distinction must
be held up to view
