<p>Soon after the formation of the Committee Lord Byron<lb/>

he was placed, – is now notorious <del>to the events</del>, – &amp; while<lb/>
the Committee mourn the loss of this most <del>illustrious</del> <add>determined</add> man<lb/>
<add>while engaged as their representative</add> in the country which his genius had made <unclear>twice</unclear> – illustrious<lb/>
they feel <unclear>consideration</unclear> &amp; pride on the reflection that his name<lb/>
&amp; his memory will be enshrined &amp; interblended <add>throughout all time</add> with <del>the</del><lb/>
words of regenerated Greece.</p>
<p>In May a public meeting was held at which Lord Milton<lb/>
took the chair &amp; various resolutions were passed in favor of<lb/>
the Greek cause.  All editors of newspapers in Great Britain<lb/>
&amp; Ireland were addressed entreating their support, and Circulars<lb/>
were forwarded to the Dignitaries of the Church, – heads of<lb/>
colleges – Masters of public schools, – &amp; a number of corporate<lb/>
<del>bodies</del> bodies both in town &amp; country.  The whole<lb/>
amount of subscriptions collected has been<lb/>
£  of which, the particulars will be found<lb/>
attached to this report.†  The Committee must on this occasion</p>
