Stephen Dumont

Twas for thee to grasp his mighty mind
To unveil its hidden powers;
And to show us his mighty grand strength entwined
With thy own immortal unfading flowers.

Thou hast sent borne his fame over land & sea
Scattering the mists before ye
Thou sharest his immortality
And he, thy milder glory.

Twas only noble, sure, in a mend spirit like thine
To tread in the path of another.
But ye met – & met at that holy shrine
When each is friend & brother.

The shrine which to man's best bliss is raised
To freedom, truth & virtue:
The rock selfish world has groaned – & gazed
Threatened – but cannot hurt ye.
