by the prohibition just mentioned.

This topic it will immediately occurr was started in has already been spoken and
by to day me: viz. in the answer given by me to the first question that was put to me on my second
examination. But the question after having been barely this topic glanced at, and having been immediately so to be superseded
by being succeeded, and thence in a manner superseded, by a series of questions bearing

which the other served no otherwise than as an object
of comparison, my respect for the commands of the Committee,
as to me by those supervening questions, forbad my
and the anxiety I consequently felt to meet each question by the
most direct as well as the concisest and promptest answer
I could find for it, forbad my attempting at that time
to attempt occupy on that occasion any part of the
time by matter which by the immediate intervention of
those other questions had thus been rendered irrelevant,
as above.
