Note
The Court of King's Bench when Jurymen
and such Barristers and Attorneys as have actual business
there a seated has not a dozen spots in it seats where a man
can sit and hear nor a dozen others where he
can stand . The other Courts in Westminster Hall
are pretty much in the same case. The New Court at the Old Bailey
though far superior in these respect to any of those
more dignified Courts has more architecture in it than
convenience for the public at large . The best contreived
Court that was ever built for a Court will bear us
comparison in this respect with the worst contrived
theatre . If Westminster Hall the Court of King's Bench were Pandaemonium ,
and Law-students possessed the faculty
Milton has bestow'd bestow'd by the inventor upon the inhabitants of that
Assembly room , Law-students would have the possibility
of getting what law is to be got by hearing .
But law it is ordained shall be acquired purchased not by
hearing but by eating : accordingly there is room enough
for them where they are to eat to eat but none to hear , but though none where
they are to hear.
