the County of Devonshire being found guilty of Stealing 16<hi rend="superscript">lb</hi> ½ of<lb/>
old Lead &amp; 4<hi rend="superscript">lb</hi> ½ of old Iron the Property of Lord <sic>Courtney</sic><lb/> 
Powderham Castle near Exeter _ Received Sentence to be<lb/>
Transported to Botany Bay  for 7 years  _ Returned from<lb/>
the bar to Exeter <sic>Goal</sic> and there remained 2 Months _ <lb/>
from thence sent on Board the Dunkirk  there remained<lb/>
10 months from thence put on board the Charlotte Transport<lb/> 
then bound to Botany Bay _ March 12<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>: 1787. Sailed round<lb/>
to Spithead there remained to the 13 of May _ then sailed<lb/>
in Company with 10 Sail for Botany Bay under the Command<lb/>
of Governor <sic>Philips</sic>. Made the Peek of <sic>Tenereef</sic> 5th<lb/>
of June, there remained 7 days, then sailed for the Island<lb/>
of Rio de <sic>Janeira</sic>, being 8 Weeks on our Passage remained<lb/>
there 1 Month, then sailed for the Cape of Good Hope being<lb/>
8 Weeks and 3 days on our passage, then sailed for Botany<lb/>
Bay being 10 Weeks on our passage. _ Came to Anchor in<lb/>
Port Jackson _ sent on shore in two days _ the Convicts<lb/>
being sent on shore began to work on Government’s account<lb/>
on being landed we were Encamped and formed into squads<lb/>
of size in a tent _ after being Encamped some of us were sent<lb/>
to clear the Ground others to build Huts _ I remained on the<lb/>
Island from January 1788 till March 1791 _ on the<lb/>
28th of March I made my Escape in Company with 7<lb/>
men, one Woman and two Children  in an open six<lb/>
oared Boat, having of privisons on board one hundred<lb/>
