a letter on shore for him. He made many <hi rend="underline">very polite apologies</hi> for<lb/>

offered of sending it. There is no harm in being known to him even though<lb/>
it be for the purpose of carrying a letter for him.</p>
 
With respect to the Steering Apparatus this Iron hoop had been taken to be<lb/>
altered but the Master Blacksmith was so ignorant he could not <del><gap/></del> <add>or</add> so obstinate<lb/>
he would not follow the directions of the Carpenter. I have therefore undertaken<lb/>
to ask the Commissioner to give <unclear>advice</unclear> to the blacksmith to do<lb/>
it <add>make 2 new ones</add> according to my directions, <del><gap/></del> &amp; I will stand by while he does it.<lb/>
I went onboard the Bienfaisant to see Teers who married Gray's <sic>Neice</sic>.
