J B for Henderson

A very recent instanceincident which I can give you
may help assist you in your calculations, whither
your object be, what I hope to find it what I still hope
and dare believe it will be, to find outinvestigate what
is really afair and proper recompense to make
voluntarily, or to guess at what would be deemed so by competent
Judges, were it unfortunately to become necessary
to resort to them<add>take their opinion</add>to with them. I give of you withhave the more
satisfaction in being able to give it you, inasmuch
the parties are persons of your own acquaintanceknowledge
by whom you may be satisfied at any time whither the account
I give of it is true at any timejust. Mr Blair
and Mr Kier, both of whom you know, were in
partnershp till lately with a Mr B William
Playfair whom perhaps you do not know, in
several and<add>manufacturing</add> concerns, in equal share. Mr Playfair
finding allfinding I hope the greater part, I believe, of the ingenuity and the trouble,
but Mr Blair finding all the money to the
amount of £4,000. The partnership lasted about three
years. Mr Blair and Mr Kier during this
time were in partnership by themselves in the
business of extracting the alkali from a seasalt
neutral salts. Mr Playfair was employd
from time to time as their agent for the purpose
of vending this alkali in London; employ'd by a commission
