Gentlemen

An Englishman drawn by curiosity to a part of the world so
distant from his native country takes the liberty of
addressing his Countrymen at Canton. — ,/p>

In the course of my travels which I have been making
for these 2 years past in the dominions of the Empress
of Russia, a desire of informing myself of the commerce
between the Chinese & Russians induced me to spend some
days at this place.

As this Town is just of the border
of the Russian dominions Not about a hundred <gap/s.
from this town but on the opposite side of the line of
division between the 2 Empires is a Chinese Town
called Miamatchin or Niamatchin. The Russian
& Chinese merchants live in these their respective Towns
and pass from one passing reciprocally from one to the
other to transact their business.

The Tamguchey or Commander governor of the Chinese town received
