Gentlemen
An Englishman drawn by curiosity to a part of the world so
distant from his native country takes the liberty of
addressing his Countrymen at Canton. —
In the course of my travels which I have been making
for these 2 years past in the dominions of the Empress
of Russia, a desire of informing myself of the commerce

days at this place.
As this Town is just on the border
of the Russian dominions Not about a hundred yards
from this town but on the opposite side of the line of
division between the 2 Empires is a Chinese Town

and pass from one passing reciprocally from one to the
other to transact their business.
The Tamguchey or Commander Governor of the Chinese town received
