<p>It is not five weeks since I dispatched my last and no doubt <lb/>most interesting letter to you. The same reason which had<lb/> made me delay writing to you for long till that time, here<lb/> prevented my being able to give any further account of myself<lb/> till now. Petersburg May 30th 1783.

It is not five weeks since I dispatched my last and no doubt
most interesting letter to you. The same reason which had
made me delay writing to you for long till that time, here
prevented my being able to give any further account of myself
till now. A short time, Sir, after that the last news I gave
you, my love affair came to a kind of crisis. The whole
town seemed to talk of nothing else for a fortnight and I
had at least the satisfaction to hear from all quarters that
my conduct throughout had met with universal approbation.
The girl's friends themselves particularly the one I write to
