One Objection that may possibly be made to my pretensions
is want of experience. To obviate this objection, I would readily
submit to any kind of examination that would be proposed; or offer any
proof that may be suggested of my proficiency in any branch of the
business that I should be thought most likely to be deficient in.
The person who has had most opportunity to judge of my qualifications
is Mr Peake 1st Assistant at Chatham. Him & his Sons I have

death of my Master Mr Peake's merits as a practical Shipwright are I believe
universally acknowledged.
