And Whereas in pursuance of the said<lb/>Act a spot of Ground at Battersea Rise consisting<lb/>of 80 Acres or thereabouts of which the Fee Simple was<lb/>and is in the Archbishops of York in right of his See &<lb/>of which William late Earl Spencer then was and George<lb/>John now Earl Spencer now is Lesee for lives under the<lb/>said See, having after great consideration and rejection<lb/>of divers other situations been at an interval of upwards<lb/>of two years from the passing of the said Act, to wit<lb/>on or about the 18<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> of June 1782, approved of<lb/>by the said Board as the properest spot for the said<lb/>purpose, and as sufficient not only for that one of<lb/> the said intended Penitentiary Houses for which the<lb/>same had originally been chosen, but for both such<lb/>Penitentiary Houses, the price thereof was on the 10<hi rend="superscript">th</hi><lb/>day of September 1782 duly assessed by the Verdict of a<lb/>Jury at £6,600 of which Verdict for the better ascertainment<lb/>of the parcels of the said Land a true copy<lb/>is exhibited by the paper marked [A.] in the schedule<lb/>hereunto annexed.</p> | |||
