As to his knowledge qualifications in the more practical part of
the business, I wish it were possible to procure a certificate
of the nature you friend Mr Perrin was obliging enough to suggest
upon a former occasion: but (besides that Mr Gray you will observe is dead) I understand it is contrary
to the rules of the p orders for any officer to give such a certificate.
Mr Peake however 1st Assistant at Chatham, from who
where knowz my Brother perfectly & from whose voluntary
instructions he has derived a great part of what practical he knowledge
he possesses, is so has that opinion of that if ever
he (Peake) should will be ready to take him as his
Foreman (that is his right hand man) if ever it should be
in his power: that is if ever he Mr should be promoted
to the place of Master. This is what Mr Peake has given
both my Brother and myself assurances of.
Mr Sambouski tells him he may be certain of imployment in
Russia, if he should think proper to accept it: and thither, to be sure his views
must be directed if he finds himself precluded of all hopes of imployment advancement
in his own.
