Indications of the relative to the The expenses relative to occasioned by different

Among the stages of prosecution which by
giving occasion to particular demands for expense
became thence accidentally subjected in some sort to
public view are the following.
1. Advertisement — containing for example
information of the offence, with or without an
indication of the person individual believed or suspected to
be the offender - and <add>with or without the publication of
a reward payable for the bringing him to justice.</add>
2. Arrest of the person of the offender or supposed
offender
3. Conveyance whether before trial to a place
of safe custody, or after trial and conviction
to the declared place of punishment: ex. gr. the
Hulks, or some port from whence the offender
convict is to be shipped for New South Wales
to the Colony of Convicts. To this head may
be referred the expenses occasioned by the
conveyance of the persons stiled Vagrants.
4. Evidence - To this head belong the rewards
granted for the conviction of felons. But under
this head is also included whatever sum owing share of
the fixed reward may be given to the same witness
person or to any other person in for
any assistance he may have lent to justice
by contributing to arrest the supposed offender,
or indicating where he may be found
5. Imprisonment. The expence of Imprisonment after conviction
belongs to the head of the Expense of punishment.
