Police Report 16 July 1798

It having been
observed by this
Committee that
although in the
Act of 7th July
1794 for the purchase
of ground
for the intended
Penitentiary House
the usual compulsory
powers
are included created,
and the
spot at Battersea
then specially included
therein,
yet neither that
nor any other
spot has been purchased
under the
said Act

And it having
been moreover
observed that
in the Treasury
Letter to this Committee
of the
15th instant signed
by Mr Secretary
Ling no answer
is given to so
much of the
Committee, Order of the
3 to which the
same purports
to be a return
as to the time
within which
the difficulties
in question seemed
likely to be
removed
