Thadobras March<hi rend="underline">Feb.</hi> 1797

Dear Sir

About the letter and Some time in of Decr: went from honor
to a letter of mane to you mentioning amongst a variety of items Benson and
his discentents; requesting the favour of you at the same
time to state what you know of his debts, and
what you recollected of the expectations you held out to him as gr inducements
for coming here. The paper on the margin of which
I am writing, and which contains liberal copies of two
letters of his to my Brother and one of my Brothers'
to him will speak for themselves. My Brother, the day
or day after he wrote his, set off for Chisson, without
having seen Benson as you may imagine.—

After his receipt of my Brothers letter, his behaviour
as I understand from half a dozen several witnesses was odd
like that of a man escaped broln loon from Bedlam. All
the execrations, all the terms of reproach abuse the language
furnishes, were bestowd' not only upon my Brother but upon me,
who had never seen him, nor interchanged a line with him since
the conversation mentioned in my last— "My Brother did
"not love the smell of powder: he would follow him to Chisson &
"call him to account— he would go to the Prince and
"make complaint against him: he would go to the
"Empress— he would go to Mr Pitt, and complain of
"nor— He would publish every thing he knew of both, the
letters and all other censures of us both" — [With all
this madness packing up filling his trunks without wit-
-nesses, and cramming every thing into them that he took
thought proper; such as sheets and bedding and I dont know what besides: for he had for he had him
the keys of every thing way to have the keep of
every thing and you know
yourself the bare condition
in which he came
his family: refusing for a long while to give up things
that had been lent him, and conveying his packages out
of

All within the brackets may
be left out as conveying
suspicions to harsh to be
confessed without proof
however much appearances foretell
