This letter will be taken to England by an English or
rather a Scotchman who has lived with me ever since I left
Petersburgh and whom I have now given leave to go to
Edinburgh to see his father & mother there at the same time
that he will execute some small commissions for me in that
part of the country. He is by trade a Watchmaker
being involved in some difficulties at Petersburgh I induced the
Prince at my leaving that place to let me engage him on
a small salary to accompany me for the purpose of working
at any Models or whatever else he might be capable of.
His father is a blacksmith by trade keeps a number of workmen
and is in pretty good circumstances and of very good repute for
a man in his station. This is his only son and therefore it is
not impossible but he may be induced to stay at home although
he now firmly intends to return this Autumn. However
