To keep 'for a constrancy'
the conservative temperature
in the atmosphere
of the frigidarium seems
nearly hopeless; at
least in the experiment

But neither is it desirable.

For the it was the
Balneum that was in
relied on from the first
and the avantage of this
is that by reason of
its simplicity, it forms
a most convenient principle
for a patent

On this consideration
it seems to be settled
(12 Decr 1808) that the
mode of giving light
may and must be by
a lamp carried in the
hand: matters being so
ordered that the time
sojournment may be as
short as possible.

One Vessel of each
article to be filled up
with water

As any one article
would in case of putrefaction
contained to
whole atmosphere,
better not place any
a still in atmosphere,
but in Vessels closed
with water stopples
no; with but with cork
stopples

A thatched hood
to be made - to move
on wheels - to shade
the add adit from
the sun

To ascertain the heat
produced by each pumping
(viz. once a day)
take out from the atmosphere two thermometers
one immediately
before begininning to pump
the other a little after the
pumping is finished.

1. Milk in the phials

2. Chopped cabbage and
Cale in the gooseberry
bottles to represent
peas, beans and french
-beans

3. Ox and Calves Hearts
in the Barrels, to represent
Venison and Game

4. Sprats and Herrings
in the Gooseberry bottles
to represent other fish

5. Untill the fruit season
arrives the chopped
cabbage &c may afford
some ground of expectation
in regard to fruits.

6. If any of the existing Grasses
keep long enough they
will serve still better.

7 Pears, if the Cabbage
is found to keep

To carry the experiment
to its full length the
course might to continue
a whole twelve month: because
in some instances
(ex.gr..) tender fruits, they
ought to be kept
months to come in li
of early ones.

would even be of use,
with a view to fruits and
legumes ex. gr. strawberries
and green peas to
continue the frigidarium
in use for a twelve month
In depositing of an
assortment of preservation
of these several kinds.
But of any other articles.
are present in the meantime
to keep the whole twelve month

Cheap spirit thermometers
to b hav to be bought
with two points fixed
to be graduated on to
board scale - To ascertain
their correctness to
be placed with a good
Mercurial Thermometer
in the same pan efluates

To ascertain degree
of uniformity as between
the cheap and correct
thermometers, try them
all together, first in water
of the temperature as
drawn, them with waterthe same
heated by asion of
boiling water

made as between air-
thermometers and ordinary
