The Affairs of France are so interesting
that I don't even read the Newspapers
for fear of occupying myself too
much about them I endeavour to
turn my attention from all Events
in which I cannot meddle, as I have
variety enough in my pursuits
never to want Amusement

In a former Letter you interest
yourself much about a Colonel
de la Fontane, as yet I have not
been able to get the least Tidings
of any such Man. He is not in
the Military Service as his name
is not in the least List.

The Letters I have received Sir, from
you since the One of April 1789 are
one of the 16th March 1789, one of
April the 8th, one of Septr 15th &
the one to day of July the 8th

It gives me the greatest pleasure
to observe that this last Letter of yours
seems written in as firm a hand
as any I ever remember to have
seen of your writing, and the smallness
