VII. Armed Memorial, and its consequences
(pursued, settled, and transmitted by Mr Nepean)
and its consequences. By armed I mean
accompanied with such those statements, without which
the "proposals" would neither have appeared
reasonable nor even intelligible, and which
accordingly Mr Long refused to consider
as a Memorial, it not being in a state continually
susceptible of the negative predicament
to be put upon it. Date 19th April
1800.
VIII. Disarmed Memorial, (sanctioned by Mr Nepean, as above) and its consequences
Proposals, the same substance as before—
but by necessity disarmed of all reasons and explanations,
and brought nearer though but (but yet not near enough as it proved) to that state of the inflexible
peremptoriness which was looked out for, for
the purpose of putting stamping upon it the predetermined negative.
