<sic>Sollicitor</sic> to the Treasury.</p>
<p>After the general charge of the conspiracy.</p>
<p>2. That whereas by a letter of direction transmitted<lb/>
to him on <del>or about the</del> same day between<lb/>
the 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> and 4<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> of May 1799 in pursuance of a<lb/>
Minute of the Board of Treasury dated<lb/>
of the 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> of May 1795 <del>directing him</del> <add>directions were</add><lb/>
given to him by authority of the said Board requiring him<lb/>
to prepare <add>an agreement</add> a Contract <add>or Agreement</add> for and previous to the then<lb/>
intended and scarce {in part} <sic>compleated</sic> purchase<lb/>
of the Estate of the Marquis of Salisbury at Milbank<lb/>
Westminster the said Joseph White on<lb/>
being applied to by and on behalf of the parties interested<add>+</add> did instead of declaring his readiness to<lb/>
obey such directions as are duty bound, did openly and<lb/>
in the presence of them the said Edward Estcourt and<lb/>
Jeremy Bentham <add>pertinaciously and repeatedly</add> declare his determination not to<lb/>
<del>execute the said directions</del> prepare any such previous<lb/>
Contract or Agreement: and that accordingly<lb/>
by reason of such disobedience of the said Sollicitor to the<lb/>
<add>said directions of the said Board</add> no such Contract or Agreement was ever entered<lb/>

§. |^^^|. Charges against Joseph White Esquire
Sollicitor to the Treasury.

After the general charge of the conspiracy.

2. That whereas by a letter of direction transmitted
to him on or about the same day between
the 2d and 4th of May 1799 in pursuance of a
Minute of the Board of Treasury dated
of the 2d of May 1795 directing him directions were
given to him by authority of the said Board requiring him
to prepare an agreement a Contract or Agreement for and previous to the then
intended and scarce {in part} compleated purchase
of the Estate of the Marquis of Salisbury at Milbank
Westminster the said Joseph White on
being applied to by and on behalf of the parties interested+ did instead of declaring his readiness to
obey such directions as are duty bound, did openly and
in the presence of them the said Edward Estcourt and
Jeremy Bentham pertinaciously and repeatedly declare his determination not to
execute the said directions prepare any such previous
Contract or Agreement: and that accordingly
