The opportunity, which now happens to <lb/> present itself, affords the <hi rend="underline">only</hi> prospect, which <lb/> the Dean and Chapter seem to have before them, <lb/> of deriving any sort of <hi rend="underline">benefit</hi> from the Waste <lb/> in question, unless, it be by the event of a <hi rend="underline">Suit</hi> <lb/> in <hi rend="underline">chancery</hi>, a contention which, under a continued <lb/> series of provocations, they have had <lb/> the wisdom & temper to keep clear of for a <lb/> long train of years, & the issue of which, how <lb/> favourable soever, could not, according to the <lb/> ordinary course of such proceedings, be reasonably <lb/> expected to have taken place, before the <lb/> greater part of the reverend body would, according, <lb/> to the common calculations of the probabilities of <lb/> life, be in their graves — </p> | |||
<p>The difference being so great between the notions <lb/> entertained on the subject of the rights in question, <lb/> on the part of the <hi rend="underline">Dean</hi> & <hi rend="underline">Chapter</hi> on the one <lb/> hand, & on the part of the <hi rend="underline">Parish</hi> or <hi rend="underline">Parishes</hi> on <lb/> the other, it seems morally certain, that any plan <lb/> which could be formed by the <hi rend="underline">Dean & Chapter</hi>, for <lb/> the improvement of the <hi rend="underline">whole</hi> of the Waste, or any <lb/> <hi rend="underline">part</hi> of it, would be opposed in Parliament by <lb/> the Parish or Parishes: in which case Parliament <lb/> could not, in the common course of proceeding, <lb/> or even in common justice, accede to an application <lb/> for that purpose, till the repugnant claims <lb/> had received a determination in course of Law — </p> | |||

Considerations
