<p>Of the favorable point of view in which it has hitherto been my

good fortune to stand in their eyes one use which I have already endeavoured

to make, &amp; I hope not altogether without success, is &#x2014; the engaging

then to rid themselves of <hi rend="underline">their</hi> <hi rend="underline">Ultramar</hi> with a good grace rather than

a bad one. In this <sic>endeavor</sic> so far as regarded Spain, I had already

expended no ordinary quantity of <sic>labor</sic> time &amp; paper. Of this paper

the most essential parts have already been received in Spain by the

hands of an intended translator &amp; are I believe in a course of publication.
