The proposer may
be required to
bear a part in
the expence As a farther check it might perhaps be expedient
that the in certain cases the Board
whould have it in their power, as a condition
of their ordering the experiment to be made, to
require the proposer to bear a certain proportion
such as an 8th or a 4th of the
expence. N.B. This provision would be more particularly
of use in the case of a fund raised for
the purpose in question by private subscription

SS.5. Premiums to be given

When in consequence of an order of the
Board an experiment has been tried and has
medals or proposers
to cast toksucceeded in so much that some point of
practical importance in the art has been
ascertained thereby, let it be taken in the power
of a majority or of some lesser proportion of the Commissioners to appoint
a premium to be given the proposer or proposers: such premiums to be
proportioned partly to the ingenuity and probability
of the proposal, partly to the trouble he
must have had in the conduct of the experiment
proposed
