Spain in my life time, be added to the number of the Nations<lb/> | |||

to all, would serve. The character which I have had the good<lb/> | |||
fortune to bear in private life, has preserved my writings, as<lb/> | |||
well as my personality, in a considerable degree, from that vituperation<lb/> | |||
which is so copiously bestowed upon some of<lb/> | |||
our eminent political writers who, on this subjet, are less fortunate. <lb/> | |||
But the eminence to which I should be raised by<lb/> | |||
such a commision from Spain would render it and object<lb/> | |||
or more importance to our corruptionists of all sorts and sizes<lb/> | |||
to exert all their powers and risk every thing for the purpose<lb/> | |||
of rendering my works an object of the greatest possible<lb/> | |||
hatred and apprehension: but against whatever mischief<lb/> | |||
might otherwise be done, an assurance such as that proposed<lb/> | |||
