of circulation, if not surpassed it. Abuse in every<lb/> | |||
shape has been a strenous supporter of reform, in every<lb/> | |||
shape of course a proporrtionably vehement enemy<lb/> | |||
to. Now observe what has just now taken place. i have<lb/> | |||
a friend and a disciple at the Bar, who goes at lengths<lb/> | |||
wish me in favour of the cause of the people, and who<lb/> | |||
has a friend at the Bar in whose mind ambition, <lb/> | |||
aided by strong talents is operating with uncommon<lb/> | |||
force he sets out with the resolution to make the most<lb/> | |||
of his talents by obsequiousness to the ruling powers, <lb/> | |||
but at the same time, is by no means insensible<lb/> | |||
to the abuse of the law, though looking upon the habit<lb/> | |||
of negating the matter in its true point of view as tending<lb/> | |||
to the prejudice of his ambitious projects he has<lb/> | |||
accordingly been in the habit of keeping his eyes shut<lb/> | |||
as close as possible against every such unpleasant spectable.<lb/> | |||
This man has just now been engaged by the Quarterly Review to make, in every number of it a regular<lb/> | |||
attack upon some portion or other of the legal system;<lb/> | |||
and, for this text book, he has taken by work on the<lb/> | |||

it: and the work not being on sale, and byt very few<lb/> | |||
