<p>Secretary Freire read a letter presented by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Deputy<lb/>
Sepulveda, to whom it had been addressed by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi><lb/>
Carvalho, member of the Regency of the Kingdom, together<lb/>
with the works of Jerem<del>ias</del>y Bentham, <del>offered</del> <add>presented</add> by <del>its</del> <add>their</add> venerable<lb/>
author to the Portuguese nation, in which letter it was<lb/>
said, that he could not give a stronger testimony<lb/>
of <del>the value he put upon</del> <add>estimation in which he held</add> the generous and<lb/>
flattering present, that in accompanying <add>combining with its</add> the<lb/>
presentation of it to the <sic>Cortez</sic> the wish that the<lb/>
Cortes may in practice adhere to the liberal doctrines<lb/>
of the <del>most distinguished</del> <add>first</add> and eldest constitutionalist<lb/>
in Europe</p>


<p>Penetrated with the sentiments of esteem<lb/>
due to the illustrious Bentham, to that Sage whose<lb/>
wisdom has illuminated the Universe &amp; to whom<lb/>
the free nations ought to erect a monument of<lb/>
gratitude for the indefatigable zeal he has <del>displayed <add>exercised</add></del> developed in favor of<lb/>
<del>in</del> the just cause of liberty [the <sic>Cortez</sic> <add>Congress</add> has <del>deli</del>] resolved<lb/>

Secretary Freire read a letter presented by Mr Deputy
Sepulveda, to whom it had been addressed by Mr
Carvalho, member of the Regency of the Kingdom, together
with the works of Jeremiasy Bentham, offered presented by its their venerable
author to the Portuguese nation, in which letter it was
said, that he could not give a stronger testimony
of the value he put upon estimation in which he held the generous and
flattering present, that in accompanying combining with its the
presentation of it to the Cortez the wish that the
Cortes may in practice adhere to the liberal doctrines
of the most distinguished first and eldest constitutionalist
in Europe

Penetrated with the sentiments of esteem
