<p>Examiner. April 2d. 1820.</p>
"Surrey. March 27. - <hi rend="underline">Seditious and blasphemous libels.</hi>.<lb/>
"<hi rend="underline">The King v. Philip Francis</hi>. - This was an indictment against<lb/>
"the defendant, for publishing N<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="underline">o</hi></hi> 3, of Carlile's <hi rend="underline">Republican</hi>, containing<lb/>
"a letter to the inhabitants of Manchester relating to the<lb/>
"proceedings of the 10th of August last. It appeared that the Defendant,<lb/>
"who is an infirm elderly man, combines with the business<lb/>
"of a shoemaker,  at N<hi rend="superscript">o</hi>. 13, Bermondsey Street, that of a dealer<lb/>
"in pamphlets.  The defendant, in addressing the Jury, said, -<lb/>
"As soon as I understod that the number if the <hi rend="underline">Repoublican</hi> in<lb/>
"question gave offence, I desisted from selling any more.  It is<lb/>
"impossible for one to read all the works I sell.  I certainly did<lb/>
"not see the book with any malicious or wicked intention. If<lb/>
"you believe this you will acquit me".
"The Chief Baron charged the Jury. that the defendant's intention<lb/>
